What if all our maps are wrong?

‘what if…‘ is a student organized series of design conversations at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HFBK) Hamburg. The series aims at fostering self-organized space for lectures and discussions on design theory and practice, as well as its social and political implications.

We are happy to take part in this series. On november 27th 2019 we will present This Is Not an Atlas at the HFBK and ask: ‘what if  all our maps are wrong?’ What aesthetics do counter-cartographers apply in their struggles all over? How can design practice foster alternative spatial narratives and imaginaries? Which traditional features and practices does critical cartography need to unlearn in order to truly decolonize map making?

In a two-day workshop with HFBK design students, we will investigate further on these issues and put some collective mapping into practice…
