Over two years ago we published “This Is Not an Atlas”. This was the starting point for a journey through the wonderful world of counter-cartographies. When we reflect on what Not-an-Atlas has become since its publication, the images (and emotions) that come to our mind are predominantly related to encounters: the diverse co-organizers and participants of Not-an-Atlas events in Europe and Latin America; surprises; severe but always appreciative debates; the flood of new contacts, many of which made us feel related to a network of like-minded soulmates, yet all different, people with whom we came to find that we shared a common passion and practice. But preparing, producing, and distributing this publication posed also a number of questions and problems. We wrote an article about this journey from a decolonial perspective named “Is This Is Not an Atlas an Atlas? On the Pitfalls of Editing a Global Collection of Counter-cartographies” which has been published in a journal called Cartographica (International Journal for Geographic Information and Geovisualization, Vol. 55, No. 3, Fall 2020, special issue titled “Decolonizing the Map”). Here a link for a limited number of free online copies of the article https://www.utpjournals.press/…/IG9I3CI5FAB2VZZEYGAI/full (Each click amounts to one download, but once you’ve accessed the article through the link, you can view/copy the full text and save/print the PDF multiple times in one session without impacting the number of copies remaining.)
